No more Black Ops 2 untill further notice !...

Uh-oh, it would appear that Activision may have done an oopsie. According to court documents relating to the upcoming ‘Acti vs. fired IW heads’ battle obtained by GameInformer, no post-Vietnam Call of Duty game can be developed by anyone other than Infinity Ward, which of course would be a problem for the near-future Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Infinity Ward’s Memorandum of Understanding clearly states that Activision will retain authority and responsibility over all titles within the Call of Duty franchise while “specifically excluding any Call of Duty title set in modern day (post Vietnam), the near future or distant furuer, which shall be under the authority of IW”. Whether Activision still considers the agreement valid after it fired IW heads Jason West and Vince Zampella is the question here, then. The upcoming court drama will hopefully clarify on that. Should the former IW execs come out winners though — according to an intellectual property lawyer GI spoke to — they may have the right to ask Black Ops II to be pulled from shelves (the less likely option) or get forced royalty payments (the more profitable option). The court date has been set for May 29.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Available to Pre-Orde...

May 03 2012 12:12 AM | Speedy in General

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is set to get its world unveiling during tonight’s basketball playoffs on TNT. However, the title’s pre-order page has gone up a little prematurely, revealing its box art, release date, and description: Pushing the boundaries of what fans have come to expect from the record-setting entertainment franchise, Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 propels players into a near future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare. Pre-order today. You may not see the page if you’re in the U.S. (I get a “your IP is blocked” message), but if you visit the Call of Duty page for the United Kingdom (www.callofduty.com/uk/en/blackops2/preorder), you’ll see the title is available to pre-order on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, with a launch date of November 13. Prices are not listed on the Call of Duty website, instead you’ll be directed to third-party retailers to make your pre-order. However, I’ve checked every retailer listed for the U.K. and as yet those pages aren’t live. We’re expecting them to go up a little later on after Black Ops 2 gets its unveiling. Furthermore, you can (almost) see that reveal video by visiting www.callofduty.com/uk/en/blackops2/videos/reveal. But right now, the video won’t play. Again, it’s likely to go live after the title gets its official unveiling in a little while.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2: What we know thus far

May 03 2012 12:09 AM | Speedy in General

This morning's Acti acci-reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 ahead of tonight's big scheduled reveal is just one more instance in a long line of Black Ops 2-related leaks. But today's leak is a biggie, revealing not just the game's title and launch date, but also new information on the game's setting. "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 propels players into a near future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare," the site reads, outing Blops 2's new future setting.

But that's not all! The site also unveiled the game's box art, which depicts a pensive gentleman holding a handgun and a hunting knife – we'd love to tell you he's Mason or Woods' son or something like that, but we couldn't glean that from the shot. Beyond that, a tipster this morning sent over four screens of the game itself that were apparently snagged from the site's backend (the images section of the site has been stripped of any images for now). As the screen above indicates, drones seem to play some role in Blops 2 – teased less than a week ago by ... uh ... this crazy YouTube video.

There's also a debut trailer, albeit one that Acti still has set to private, which we're guessing will roll tonight during the NBA playoffs. What can we tell from the still thumbnail is that you'll either be watching someone else pilot a heli through Los Angeles or taking the reins yourself (it's unclear from the image). Either way, we're totally psyched at the idea of destroying the site of E3 from a helicopter. Retribution, finally!

Finally, the site's pre-order page only lists options for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, seemingly eschewing the variety of other platforms that previous Call of Duty games launched on. It is of course possible that Acti is holding other platform announcements for the future, which, ya know, would be pretty synergistic considering the game's future setting.

Xecuter does it again – 10 years and still rockin'. Greets to the haters.

More news soon – here's some screen shots of the NAND Dump – the box is still live so a few portions of info were blocked. However if you doubt this is real you should go to the back of the noob line.

Leaked Rayman Legends trailer shows Wii U’s NFC...

Apr 27 2012 11:46 PM | GR-BrianJr in Nintendo General

A leaked trailer for Ubisoft's upcoming Rayman Legends, which uses some of the Wii U's unique capabilities like touch control and the ability to transfer data from real-world items via NFC.

I can’t imagine many truly vital uses for the Wii U controller’s ability to transfer data via near-field communication (NFC), but Ubisoft has already thought of some silly, fun ones. A leaked E3 trailer for Rayman Legends, a new sidescrolling action game starring Ubisoft’s famous no-limbed mascot, hints at the Wii U’s power and some of its new abilities.

By placing a plush toy of a crazy looking heart or rabbid (or even Desmond Miles from Assassin’s Creed) on your Wii U controller screen, you can make it rain hearts or perform other good or bad actions in the game. We can imagine trading card games taking advantage of this functionality in a similar way.

The leaked E3 trailer comes from GameKult, a french game site, and may get taken down soon. We’ve saved a few screenshots of the game and have embedded the trailer.

Rayman Legends seems to follow in line with the recent Rayman Origins. It’s a lot closer to the classic Rayman PlayStation game than any of the hero’s 3D outings since. The hand-drawn art style of Origins is present, but much more refined, looking more like a 2D cartoon than ever before. The trailer features incredibly large numbers of enemies and maps with a huge range of locations. It’s beautiful, and shows off a taste of the power of the Wii U, which may not match the upcoming consoles from Microsoft and Sony, but Wii owners should certainly be happy.

Multiplayer gameplay is present and appears to allow local players and online players (or maybe opponents). There are also multiplayer minigames — a four-player soccer match was shown — and social online games. It even appears that players can race each other through levels online. In the middle of the trailer, we see half a dozen Rayman characters playing through the same level — some of them ghosted out much like a time-trial ghost in Mario Kart.

Some touchscreen abilities are also present. It appears that the player with the Wii U touchscreen controller can control objects in the gaming world with the touchscreen, doing things like raising or lowering platforms to allow other players to pass through a region. We imagine that, in this god mode of sorts, the player with the Wii U controller would be able to use the NFC to hurt or help the players in the game. Most of Nintendo’s early Wii U demos at E3 last year featured similar “god mode” type play where the player with the Wii U controller has a completely different role than other players, often with a lot more power and vision than the other players. Will this become a trend on the new console?

Microsoft introducing more TV-like ads on Xbox...

Apr 27 2012 06:20 PM | GR-BrianJr in Xbox 360 General

Microsoft is to introduce TV-style 15-30 second ads to a wider range of Xbox Live media apps.

The commercials were first introduced as part of the last major Xbox Live dashboard update and are currently displayed in apps such UFC, TMZ, and Crackle.
Going forward, the platform holder is planning to integrate these ads into content from providers including ESPN, Last.fm, Manga Entertainment, GameSpot and MUZU.TV.

"With the growth of Xbox Live, advertisers no longer have to choose between digital and TV advertising - we're offering the impact of TV and the interactivity and addressability of digital in one platform," Microsoft's Ross Honey, general manager of Xbox Live Entertainment and Advertising, told Gamasutra.

"As more and more industry leaders like ESPN work with us to help monetize their content on Xbox Live, TV media buyers win with the ability to extend their standard TV spots to this highly engaged consumer audience."

The prominence of adverts on Xbox Live hasn't gone down well with players, many of whom pay a fee for access to the Gold tier of the service.

Earlier this month a LinkedIn profile revealed that Microsoft aims to 'further monetize' Xbox Live subscribers and has developed a plan to implement its new strategy by holiday 2012.
